biography
A French stage actress of some renown, Rita Jolivet became world famous as the last person to speak to legendary Broadway impresario Charles Frohman shortly before the sinking of the Lusitania off the coast of Ireland, May 7, 1915. According to Madame Jolivet, the producer's final words were "Death is the most beautiful adventure in life." Under Frohman's management, Jolivet had starred in such American film productions as The Unafraid as an American heiress caught up in a Balkan revolution and Her Redemption (1916). Jolivet's American screen career culminated with the propaganda melodrama Lest We Forget (1918) which fictionalized her ordeal on the Lusitania. She later starred in Messalina in Italy.
