A stage actor who had toured in stock with the team of Kolb and Dill, Richard Stanton acted for various Universal companies prior to becoming a director for Fox. William Fox apparently had high regard for him and he went on to helm many of the company's special features, including a 1917 version of The Scarlet Pimpernel starring the husband-and-wife team of Dustin Farnum and Winifred Kingston; The Caillaux Case (1918), a war drama straight off the presses, as it were; the extremely successful melodrama Checkers (1919), from Henry M. Blossom's classic barnstormer; and the serial Bride 13 (1920). Stanton's output in the following decade was minimal, however.
