Biography by AllMovie

One of the great magazine illustrators in the early years of the 20th century, Scottish-born Penrhyn Stanslaws has been credited with discovering such early screen actresses as Mabel Normand, Alice Joyce, Anna Q. Nilsson, and Olive Thomas, all of whom would grace the then-popular illustrated song slides. Presumably due to his sense of composition, Stanslaws directed several films in the very early 1920s, including a 1921 version of J.M. Barrie's The Little Minister starring Betty Compson as Lady Babbie.
