A former photographer and vaudeville comic, American silent screen director Louis Chaudet was extremely busy during the early years of California film production, churning out 2-reel comedies by the truckloads for Nestor, the first motion picture company to settle in the sleepy village of Hollywood. Although a fine craftsman, Chaudet failed when it came to character development and mise-en-scene, and his career never progressed beyond routine slapstick and low-budget westerns. He retired at the advent of sound and died all but forgotten at the Motion Picture Country House and Hospital.
