Specializing in comedy, Ralph Ceder apprenticed as a film cutter, production assistant, and props supervisor at various studios before graduating to directing various Universal short subjects. He would direct several low-budget comedies in the sound era but is perhaps better-known for staging the chariot sequences in the Eddie Cantor spectacle Roman Scandals (1933) and his second unit work on several W.C. Fields comedies.
