  • First radio job was for WJAR, an NBC affiliate in Providence, R.I., in 1938.
  • Began working for NBC Studios in New York in 1944.
  • Broke into an episode of Bachelor Father on NBC in 1963 to announce President Kennedy had been shot.
  • Was the original announcer for both The Prince is Right and Jeopardy!
  • Was the announcer for every season of Saturday Night Live from the beginning until season 39 (except season 7, the only one without Lorne Michaels as the producer).
  • Retired in 2004, but continued to work for SNL, either flying into New York or recording the intro from his home in Arizona.
