- Began working for NBC Studios in New York in 1944.
- Broke into an episode of Bachelor Father on NBC in 1963 to announce President Kennedy had been shot.
- Was the original announcer for both The Prince is Right and Jeopardy!
- Was the announcer for every season of Saturday Night Live from the beginning until season 39 (except season 7, the only one without Lorne Michaels as the producer).
- Retired in 2004, but continued to work for SNL, either flying into New York or recording the intro from his home in Arizona.
- Inducted into the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame in 2010.
