An early screen actress, Jessalyn Van Trump ("Toodles" to her colleagues) starred opposite J. Warren Kerrigan, one of the screen's first Western heroes, in numerous one- and two-reelers produced by the American Company in Santa Barbara, CA. Van Trump left with Kerrigan when he bolted for the more prosperous Universal in 1913 and later also appeared opposite Wallace Reid, the era's great matinee idol. Van Trump's screen career was for all intents and purposes over by late 1915, but she did return for a supporting role in The Girl in the Rain (1920), a mystery starring future director Lloyd Bacon.
