  • Selected by the New York Mets in the 1965 draft.
  • Number retired by three different teams: No. 34 by both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers, and No. 30 by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Was the first Texas Ranger to have his number retired.
  • Despite throwing seven no-hitters, never won a Cy Young Award. Also lost five no-hitters in the ninth inning.
  • Played in the majors for 27 seasons, spanning four decades (1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s).
  • Was the first player to earn $1 million per season when he signed with the Houston Astros.
  • Formed the Nolan Ryan Foundation in 1990. The foundation helps provide resources for youth, education and community development.
  • Earned Hall of Fame honors in 1999, his first year on the ballot. Chose to wear a Rangers cap for his plaque to reflect his Texas heritage, as well as his 300th win, 5000th strikeout, and the last two no-hitters of his career.
  • Set the MLB record for both strikeouts (5,714) and walks (2,795) for a career.
  • Became president of the Texas Rangers in 2008, and was part of a group that took ownership of the team during the 2010 season.
