Czech-born, Mexico-reared Miroslava (born Miroslava Sternova) had won a beauty contest prior to becoming one of Mexico's most popular leading ladies of the late '40s. In 1951, the blonde Miroslava took acting lessons in Hollywood and appeared opposite Anthony Quinn in Robert Rossen's fine The Brave Bulls. She would return to American films only once, opposite Joel McCrea in Stranger on Horseback (1955) which, like her most famous film, Luis Bunuel's Ensayo de un Crimen (aka The Criminal Life of Archibaldo de la Cruz [1955]), was released posthumously. Miroslava committed suicide in her home in Mexico City, reportedly after a lovers' quarrel. Her tragic life story became the subject of the 1993 Miroslava, a Mexican production featuring Arielle Dombastle in the title role.
