biography
Romanian director Mircea Dragan specializes in historical epics. A noted film critic before he entered the film industry, Dragan studied film direction at Bucharest's Institute of Theater and Film Art from 1951 through 1955. He made his first feature, Dincolo de Brazi/Beyond the Fir Trees, in conjunction with Mihai Iacob, who also helped Dragan write the screenplay. Since 1964, Dragan has been a lecturer at the film department of his alma mater, where he was eventually appointed dean.
