biography
The nephew of studio boss Carl Laemmle, film producer Max Alexander's primary footnote in screen history is that his wife, Shirley, divorced him to marry director Edgar G. Ulmer. Despite having directed The Black Cat, one of cash-strapped Universal's more successful 1934 releases, both Edgar and Shirley Ulmer were banned from the studio lot. Max Alexander's brother, Arthur Alexander, was also a producer for Universal.
