biography
Casting director Maude Spector was among the first in her profession to work independently of major studios. She started out with Denham Studios during the 1940s and then jumped out on her own. It was Spector who cast Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet (1945). Other notable films on which she worked include Great Expectations (1946), Around the World in 80 Days (1956), Lawrence of Arabia (1962), and The Boys from Brazil (1978). Spector also helped find stars to appear in the television miniseries Shogun and The Far Pavilions.
