Maryon Aye on AllMovie

A WAMPAS Baby Star of 1922, the first year of the annual starlet selection, brunette Maryon Aye had done some stock company work in California and appeared onscreen, opposite low-budget comedian Frank Kingsley when "discovered" by comedy king Mack Sennett. She danced in the transvestite comedy Yankee Doodle in Berlin (1918) and promoted the film on tour, but made perhaps her biggest mark in 18 Western shorts opposite Bob Reeves. Her then husband, a press agent, had an obvious hand in her WAMPAS selection (the acronym, after all, stood for "Western Associated Motion Picture Advertisers"), but her subsequent film roles were in the supporting category. Long forgotten by the film industry, she attempted suicide in 1935. There were reportedly several subsequent tries, but a 1951 attempt proved successful. "I thought she was joking," her grieving (second) husband told the press.
