Biography by AllMovie

The daughter of a French government official, she spent her youth in Vietnam, New Caledonia, and Paris. She debuted onscreen at age 17, and appeared in several more films while earning degrees in law and political science. In the late '60s and early '70s she appeared mostly in unusual films made by young, unknown directors. In 1975 her career took off when she won the Cesar Award for her work in Cousin Cousine; this led to an invitation to Hollywood, where she landed the lead role in The Other Side of Midnight (1977). Since then, however, she has appeared mainly in European films. She has contributed to several screenplays and directed the film Le Bal Du Governeur/The Governor's Party (1990), for which she wrote a screenplay based on her own novel.
