László Ranódy on AllMovie

Filmmaker László Ranódy was an important figure in the development of Hungarian cinema after WWII. He specialized in adaptations of Hungarian literature. Born in Sombor, Yugoslavia, he obtained a law degree from a Budapest university in 1942 and later graduated from the Budapest Academy of Fine Art. Following WWII, he became an assistant director. In the late '40s, he was an artistic director for the Hungarian Film Studios and also was a managing director of the Sarló Film Company. Ranódy made his feature-film directorial debut in 1950 with the film Csilligosok (Stars) but due to government censorship, it was neither finished nor released. Between 1948 and 1954, Ranódy lectured at the Academy of Theatre and Film Art. In addition to his film work, he also worked in television.
