East German filmmaker Kurt Jung-Alsen worked in features and television as a director and occasional actor. Jung-Alsen began his career acting on-stage in Austria and Germany. During WWII, he was imprisoned in a POW camp in Rimini, Italy, and managed an amateur theater while confined. After the war, Jung-Alsen directed for the stage in Altenburg and Erfurt, and later worked in several Berlin theaters. In 1954, Jung-Alsen joined the staff of DEFA Studios and directed his first film, Wer Seine Frau Lieb Hat/He Who Loves His Wife, that same year.
