Kirby was born Bruno Quidaciolu Jr.; early in his career he was sometimes billed as "B. Kirby Jr." The son of actor Bruce Kirby, he studied acting with Stella Adler and Peggy Feury. He began his career with a regular role on the TV series Room 222, and he has since appeared in numerous TV movies. He debuted onscreen in Cinderella Liberty (1973), then landed a noteworthy small role with Robert DeNiro in The Godfather Part II (1974); after that promising beginning he spent a decade in bit parts and bombs. His screen career became more fruitful after a prominent supporting role as an uptight, idiotic army lieutenant in Good Morning, Vietnam (1987). He went on to a string of important supporting roles in mostly successful films.
