Composer Joseph Brooks tried his hand at many roles behind the camera -- producer, director, and screenwriter -- but he remains best known for his musical contributions to cinema, namely, the 1977 hit "You Light Up My Life." The New York native also wrote and directed the corresponding film, which ran under the same title and starred Didi Conn (Grease). Brooks committed suicide in 2011, while facing criminal charges for allegedly sexually assaulting 13 women. He was 73.
