José María Forn has worked extensively in Spanish cinema as an actor and in various offscreen capacities. A native of Barcelona, Forn started out doing menial jobs within the film industry, eventually making his feature directorial debut with Yo Maté/I Killed (1955). As a director, he has specialized in making films centered in and about his native Catalonia. In 1952, Forn created the P.C. Teide production company. Forn has acted as owner and manager of the company since 1958 and has played a vital role in promoting the careers of other Catalonian filmmakers. In 1975, Forn co-founded the Institut de Cinema Català. In 1986, Forn served as the General Manager of Cinematographic Affairs to the Catalan Government. During the '80s, Forn retired from films but he returned to filmmaking in 1991 with Ho Sap el Ministre?/Does the Minister Know? In 1998, Forn developed the thriller Subjudice.
