biography
Russian filmmaker/screenwriter Josef Heifitz is best known for the work he did in conjunction with Alexander Zarkhi. With films such as Baltic Deputy (1937), Heifitz and Zarkhi were considered the forefathers of the "historic realism movement in Soviet films. Heifitz began his solo directorial career in 1950. His best-known solo film is The Lady with the Dog (1960).
