biography
Spanish screenwriter Jorge Semprun penned scripts for European feature-length films of the '60s and wrote many novels. His favorite topic concerned the horrors of war, something he was too intimate with, having been actively involved with the Spanish Civil War and the French Resistance. During WWII, he spent time in the concentration camp at Buchenwald. Semprun wrote his first screenplay for Resnais' La Guerre Est Finie in 1966. Semprun served as the Spanish Minister of Culture from 1988 through 1991.
