Joe Hutshing is one of Hollywood's most respected film editors. He has spent much of his career working closely with director Oliver Stone, beginning with Wall Street (1987), for which Hutshing served as an associate editor. In those early years, he frequently co-edited with David Brenner on projects such as Eric Bogosian's Talk Radio (1988) and The Doors (1991). In 1991, Hutshing and Brenner shared an Oscar for editing Stone's Born on the Fourth of July. He and Pietro Scalia subsequently shared an Oscar for Stone's JFK (1991).
Hutshing holds a degree in fine arts from the University of Oregon. He was still in school when he began editing student films that had been sponsored by the American Film Institute. His first professional job was working as an assistant editor on John Cassavetes' award-winning short The Haircut.
Following the acclaim he received from JFK, which also included a British Academy Award and an Eddy from the American Cinema Editors, Hutshing has continued to work on large-budget main features such as The River Wild (1994), Jerry Maguire (1996), and Broken Arrow (1996).
