biography
A star pitcher on New York Yankees baseball teams of the 1960s and later a cast-off journeyman player, Jim Bouton made a lasting contribution to American culture with his insightful and hilarious autobiographical non-fiction book Ball Four, the first tell-all insider's view of professional sports. He has occasionally worked in film and television, most notably in Robert Altman's superb revisionary film noir classic The Long Goodbye.
