A former lawyer-turned-title writer and film editor, Jesse J. Goldburg (the "J" stood for James) organized the Independent Pictures Co., a purveyor of inexpensive Westerns starring the likes of Franklyn Farnum, Bob Custer, and Bill Cody and distributing through the FBO exchanges. Goldburg later produced action films for Chadwick Pictures but left to become sales manager of the Van Beuren Corp., a producer of comedy short subjects.
