Actor Jesse Garcia broke through to national acclaim via a difficult lead characterization in the American independent film Quinceañera (2005). As Carlos, a Hispanic teenager openly experimenting with homosexuality (who thus draws the chagrin and disapproval of his conservative Chicano community), Garcia drew critical acclaim; the part announced the onset of a successful career for the young actor. Garcia then followed it up with a bit part in Edward James Olmos' Walkout (2006), played Jorge in the sports-themed farce The Comebacks (2007), and tackled one of the leads in Celia Fox's urban drama Days of Wrath, as the estranged gang leader son of a Los Angeles TV station owner (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
