French actor and producer Jacques Charrier was born to a family of military men in Metz, France. He broke with family tradition to become an artist. First he tried ceramics and then began acting on the stage. In 1958, he entered films. He typically played leading roles, but gained the most notoriety when he married Brigitte Bardot. Their brief, tumultuous marriage was punctuated by his many personal problems.
