The songs "Sail Along, Silv'ry Moon," "Go to Sleepy Little Baby," "Wait for Me, Mary" and "Zei Gezunt" all have one thing in common. All of the lyrics were penned by the great Tin Pan Alley lyricist Harry Tobias. The son of Russian-Jewish immigrants, the New York City-born Tobias was 16 when he wrote his first song, "National Sport," to pay homage to his baseball hero Ty Cobb. Later he and his brothers Henry and Charlie Tobias would team up to write "Miss You," a tune that became a hit for Rudy Vallee in 1929. After moving to Los Angeles, Harry Tobias wrote "At Your Command" for Bing Crosby and remained with the famed crooner until the end of the 1940s. In 1983, Tobias was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
