Biography by AllMovie

A onetime radio orchestra leader and touring violinist, George Stoll settled at MGM in 1937 as a musical director. Stoll wielded the baton for many of MGM's best musicals, winning an Oscar for his work in Anchors Aweigh (1944). It should come as no surprise that Stoll's one Marx Brothers film, 1941's The Big Store, was the most tuneful of the Marx Brothers' efforts, affording two solos each for Harpo and Chico. George Stoll retired after orchestrating MGM's 1964 Ann Margret vehicle Made in Paris.
