biography
A former stage director for Broadway impresarios Charles Dillingham and George M. Cohan, Philadelphia-native George L. Sargent entered films with the French-owned Eclair company in the early 1910s, later directing for such pioneering firms as Kalem, World, and American. After helming the 15-chapter serial The Secret of the Submarine (1916) for American, Sargent switched to Vitagraph, for whom he directed such stars as Alice Joyce, Corinne Griffith, and Alice Calhoun. Sargent continued working in the film industry until at least 1927.
