Chicago native Geoffrey Pierson earned a masters in drama from Yale University before beginning his professional acting career with Summerstock theater productions. He continued to act on-stage, and didn't begin an on-camera career until he was 40 years old, starting with 1981's The Mating Season. He continued with appearances on shows like Law & Order and The Drew Carey Show, eventually landing the role of President John Keeler on the hit series 24. In 2007, Pierson accepted the part of Captain Tom Matthews on the Showtime series Dexter.
