biography
A former leading lady of Christie comedies and the wife of Poverty Row actor/director/producer Ashton Dearholt, blond Florence Gilbert's main chance for stardom came in the 1926 disaster epic The Johnstown Flood. Florence had the nominal female lead but most of the attention went instead to newcomer Janet Gaynor. Divorcing Dearholt, Gilbert wed her ex-husband's business partner, Tarzan creator Edgar Rice Burroughs. She divorced a second time in 1941, remarried, and completely disappeared from the limelight. Her daughter became a noted Hollywood animal trainer under the name Christy Cullen.
