biography
A well-known stock company heavy who appeared opposite Wilson Lackaye and Margaret Anglin, tall, dark-haired Ernest C. Joy entered films with Eclair, Thanhouser, and Kinemacolor in the early 1910s. He later signed with Paramount and became a favorite villain for both the DeMille brothers, appearing as Mr. Van Cartland, the pompous millionaire in the Chimmie Fadden series and opposite opera diva Geraldine Farrar in the still-extant Joan the Woman (1916). He was married to screen actress Mabel Van Buren.
