biography
A former military officer, British-born Ernest Butterworth played bit roles for D.W. Griffith from Intolerance (1916) onwards but in the 1910s and 1920s was rather more famous as the father of child actors Ernest Jr., Frank, and Joe Butterworth. Ernest Sr. continued to play bit parts in films through the early sound era.
