In American films since The Little Cripple (1911), a Kalem one-reeler in which he starred, winsome Ernest Butterworth Jr. was a popular juvenile player well into the 1920s. Today, alas, his screen credits are usually mistakenly awarded to Ernest Sr., a D.W. Griffith stock company player who had fathered a veritable brood of child actors that also included Frank and Joe Butterworth. Unlike his father, Ernest Jr.'s screen career did not survive the transition to sound.
