Biography by AllMovie

The niece of legendary American stage actress Minnie Madden Fiske, with whom she appeared in Tess of the D'Urbervilles and Man and Superman, blonde Emily Stevens became a star in her own right in The Unchastened Woman. In films from 1913, Stevens made dual roles something of a specialty, playing both mother and daughter in House of Tears (1915) and identical cousins, one good, the other bad, in Alias Mrs. Jessop (1917). She was also Kate Kildare in Kildare of the Storm (1918), forced into a loveless marriage by a greedy mother; and Rosalie Allen, losing her beau to a younger woman in The Sacred Flame (1919). Alas, Stevens was perhaps a bit too theatrical for the screen and returned to the legitimate theater in 1920. She died from a drug overdose.
