biography
A stage star of some importance who appeared opposite Mrs. Fiske in the plays of Henrik Ibsen (including a disastrous Broadway revival of Pillars of Society in 1910), Edward Mackay dabbled in films in the 1910s as a director for the early sound film company Kinetophone Corp., and as a rather grand leading man of such melodramas as Clothes (1914) and Man and His Angel (1916). Mackay, however, belonged thoroughly to the stage and continued to appear on Broadway until at least 1923 and elsewhere until the early '30s.
