biography
One of the Great Northern Company's finest early directors, Danish silent screen director Edouard Schnedler-Sørensen created such disparate films as the sensationalistic circus melodrama Dødsspring til Hest fra Cirkus-Kuplen (The Death Jump on Horseback From the Big Top) and the light comedy Vor Tids Dame (A Lady for Our Time). The latter is said to have inspired both Sweden's Mauritz Stiller and Germany's Ernst Lubitsch. Like so many early screen directors, Schnedler-Sørensen failed to keep up with the rapid changes in the film business and retired as early as 1917. He did return for two minor films in the 1920s, but spent the remainder of his life running a Copenhagen movie theater.
