A busy Australian actor of stage and screen who often appeared as a portly working-class everyman, Paul Chubb's roles in such Aussie films as Stan and George's New Life (1990) and The Roly Poly Man (1994) warmed him to Down-Under audiences while roles in such widely released efforts as The Coca-Cola Kid (1985) gave the actor international exposure. Born Paul Dunford in Arncliffe, Australia, Dunford changed his moniker to a more figure-appropriate form and received his early acting schooling at Sydney's ensemble theater. Moving on to television series with Glenview High and then to extensive stage work, Chubb's return to the small screen found him appearing in such prestige productions as The Dismissal. Numerous television appearances followed, and Chubb would later serve as host to the Australian Broadcasting Committee's TheaterSports while racking up an impressive 22 film credits. Following his role in the 2002 crime comedy Dirty Deeds, Chubb was admitted to a Newcastle, South Wales hospital for cardiomyopathy surgery from which he never returned. He was 53.
