Diana Manners on AllMovie

The beautiful and vivacious daughter of the Duke of Rutland, Lady Diana Manners condescended to star in The Glorious Adventure (1922), filmed in Prizma Colour by J. Stuart Blackton, the British-born co-founder of the American Vitagraph Company who had returned to England because, as Manners states in her autobiography, "Hollywood had risen above Mr. Blackton." The Glorious Adventure proved an expensive flop, alas, and so did The Virgin Queen (1923), for which Lady Diana, amidst much furor, shaved her eyebrows to play the title role of Queen Elizabeth I. Dismissed as a "grotesque anachronism," The Virgin Queen decisively ended Manners' cinematic aspirations.
