Sensitive leading man Charles Denner was born in Poland and raised in France, where as a teenager he began his stage career. Ten years after his theatrical debut, Denner appeared in his first film, La Meilleure Part (1956). His biggest critical success was as the likeable lunatic protagonist in Alain Jessua's Life Upside Down (1964). Other Charles Denner films to enjoy worldwide distribution include Landru (1963; his first starring movie role), The Bride Wore Black (1968; one of many appearances in the films of Francois Truffaut ), Z (1969) and Money Money Money (1972).
