Stage actor/director David Kirkland launched his film career in 1911 as an extra at the Melies studios. He appeared in the raucous "Snakeville" comedies of 1914 and 1915 before turning to producing and directing with 1916's Crippled Hand. He briefly returned to acting in Constance Talmadge's The Love Expert, which he also directed. David Kirkland was 48 when he closed out his film activities in 1925; he lived to be 87.
