British cinematographer Christopher G. Challis is noted for his richly detailed photography. He started out as a teenager working as a newsreel camera assistant. During WW II, he served as a cameraman with the RAF. Upon his return, Challis became a camera operator and a full-fledged director of photography in 1948.
