Bulgarian director Christo Christov made two of the seminal films in his country's cinema, Iconostasis (1969, in collaboration with Todor Dinov) and Posledno Lyato/Last Summer (1974). Before entering the film industry, Christov earned a medical degree in 1952. In 1958, he graduated from the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in Sofia and for a time afterward gave lectures in film direction. Between 1958 and 1966, Christov was a stage designer and director at the Povdiv Theater. Between 1966 and 1967, Christov worked at Mosfilm Studios as an apprentice to several film directors, including Marlen Khutsiev and Mikhail Romm. In addition to his work in theater and film, Christov also works in television. From 1974 to 1982, he served as the chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Film Workers.
