Popular with both Mary Pickford and her husband, Douglas Fairbanks, tall, dark-haired stage actor Charles Belcher appeared in numerous legendary silent films, including Ben-Hur (1925), in which he plays Balthazar. A graduate of San Francisco's Lincoln Grammar School, Belcher had come to films in 1919 after 12 years on the stage.
