biography
A former model for illustrators Harrison Fisher (for whom she was the "Western Girl"), Charles Dana Gibson, and Clarence Underwood, brunette Beata Gray (born Hansen) parlayed that experience and a brief stint in vaudeville into playing opposite Lionel Barrymore on screen in The Power of the Press (1914). A popular ingenue in the mid-1910s, Gray later played in the propaganda film Why America Will Win (1918). She became one of the victims of the devastating 1918-1919 Spanish influenza epidemic.
