Documentary filmmaker Beryl Fox, recognized for her innovation and political commitment, is a central figure in the development of investigative reporting of current affairs on television. In 1962, she was hired by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a script assistant and researcher. She also co-directed her first film. Fox had an unusual gift for understanding the political conflicts of her day. She was also the first Canadian to do in-depth, and frequently critical, explorations of U.S. travails such as race riots, feminism, and the Vietnam War. She worked with the CBC until 1966 and continued making documentaries for another decade before branching out into producing feature films for mainstream audiences.
