Playing master detective Craig Kennedy in the three Pearl White serials The Exploits of Elaine (1914), The New Exploits of Elaine (1915), and The Romance of Elaine (1915), Arnold Daly came to chapterplays with quite a pedigree in the legitimate theater, having starred on Broadway in such plays as Pudd'nhead Wilson, Secret Service, and Mrs. Warren's Profession. In addition to his Craig Kennedy, Daly also gave cinematic life to another pulp fiction detective, Ashton Kirk, in three melodramas in 1915, two of which, An Affair of Three Nations and House of Fear, he also directed. Still a name to reckon with on Broadway, Daly left films in the late 1910s and would only make infrequent visits to movie theaters thereafter. Daly's death was attributed to serious burns sustained in a fire.
