A British stage actor from 1945, Anthony Steel entered films in 1948. After specializing in small military roles, Steel enjoyed a brief leading-man period in the mid-1950s, capped by the starring role in Albert RN (1953) and the part of Harry Faversham in the 1954 Four Feathers remake Storm Over the Nile. In 1960, he shifted his base of operations to Europe, where he starred in many a sword-and-sandal epic and German western. He returned to English-language films as a character actor, which he remained until his retirement in 1980. From 1956 to 1962, Anthony Steel was best known as the husband of movie sex-symbol Anita Ekberg.
