A graduate of the Drama Centre in London, Anne-Marie Duff first cultivated a career on the stage, appearing in numerous theatrical productions throughout the '90s, like King Lear, War and Peace, and Vassa. Eventually trying her hand at on-screen acting, Duff earned critical praise for her performances in numerous film and TV projects, especially her starring roles in the lavish BBC-produced mini-series The Virgin Queen, Shameless, and Doctor Zhivago. In the late 2000s, the actress would take on more feature film roles, notably starring in the Michael Caine feature Is Anybody There? in 2009. Duff met actor James McAvoy while filming 2004's Shameless, and the two were married in 2006.
