Alejandro Ferretis Elizondo was a former below-the-line production worker who first stepped in front the camera to great critical acclaim in the 2002 drama Japón; his untimely death shortly thereafter remains shrouded in mystery. A native of Mexico City who suffered a childhood bout with polio, Elizondo endured to find frequent work in the film industry. An impressive performance in Japón earned the first-time actor the top award at the 2003 Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Cinema and a nomination at the 2004 Ariel Awards (Mexico's equivalent of the Oscar). His absence at the Ariel Awards raised suspicions among the masses as to the actor's well-being, and his body was discovered in his San Miguel de Allende home shortly thereafter. He was 59.
